When shopping for fruits and vegetables, have you ever been disappointed with the taste? Have you ever wondered what happened to the delicious taste that you remember from days in the past of a cucumber, a zucchini or tomato?

THE IMPACT OF FARMING ON FOOD

The organic farmers can tell you why things have changed. For commercially raised food, natural principles of soil restoration are not followed.

If the soil is in an area where certain nutrients are not in the soil, it takes a lot of labor to improve the soil with compost. The essential pH and nutrients are needed to create the most wonderful alchemy to provide a vital plant and subsequent food vitality. If crops are not rested or rotated, the earth is not restored for the following seasons.

We need the various vitamins, minerals, major, minor and trace compounds and essential oils that are found in root vegetables, leafy greens, herbs, fruits, sea vegetables and seeds that are grown in rich, fertile soils. However, depleted soil is not the only way plants are depleted in the modern world. Improper cooking techniques, high temperatures, microwaves, and not chewing properly also cause deficiencies in the human body.

The Frequencies of Life

Food, Essential Oils & Even Thoughts Carry Vibrations!

In 1990, Gary Young spent time in France learning about the art of essential-oil distillation. France is famous for its lavender fields. He studied the different cultivars of lavender and collected the very best seeds and secretly brought them home to the U.S. in his cowboy boots. He planted the seeds in the backyard of the Young Living office building. The descendants of those lavender plants are now growing on the Young Living lavender farm in St. Marie’s, Idaho.

France was the only country at the time that had a laboratory facility for testing and certifying the attributes of essential oils. Americans were not as quick to utilize essential oils as Europeans. For example, there were hospitals in France with tents over patients’ beds, with a computer pad set up to regulate the dispensing of various essential oil. Patients loved it!

After his visit to France, Gary went on to study the science of essential oils in Syria, Turkey, and Germany.

Painting with Essential Oils

Why I Mixed in Oil of Spikenard

March – April 2022 • Vol 3, No 120

This past year, I moved into a new house. Finding a new home around here is not easy! My realtor eventually located a home built around 1980 that met most of my needs but did not have office space. The only possible space was the outside deck facing the mountains. I purchased the home and began my renovations, walling up the deck to create my office.

During the renovations, I wanted to use supplies that were as nontoxic as possible. I was able to purchase windows from Sierra Pacific to endure the significant Livingston, Montana winds on that corner of the house.

The ceiling and one wall were made from stucco, which we plastered with mud to have a smoother appearance. Then, we primed with white paint and painted the wall with a color called Fruit Cocktail. A friend thought it was a little loud, but when the white bookshelves go in, this will temper the color.

Botanical Adventures in Ecuador

Its Indigenous People Have Always Depended on Healing Plants

November – December 2021 • Vol 3, No 118

I would like to share some adventures with you from my recent trip to Ecuador. The country of Ecuador is about the size of Nevada. Ecuador is a country of mountains, hills and valleys. I first traveled to Quito, the capital city, and took a taxi ride about 1 1/2 hours to a valley. This is where the small city of Cotacachi is nestled between two mountains.

I stayed with a friend who offered me the local foods grown in the valley and those that grow along the side of the mountains. Eating the local food planted in volcanic soil was a very enlightening experience for me. My diet at home consists of a variety of organic traditional foods, so I did not expect to feel a real change. However, the change was notable! I can still feel the strength of the nutrients from those daily foods.

My Dog Jhana Survives an Attack!

Essential Oils to the Rescue!

Maria Low
September – October 2021 • Vol 3, No 117

Midnight was approaching when I took Jhana, my Field Labrador, out for a walk. We wanted to get a little fresh air and exercise before settling down for the night. We walked two blocks to a nearby playground. At the end of the park area was a road. Nearby, there was a bleary streetlight piercing the darkness with a pale-yellow light.

Jhana was close by when a dog smaller than my 95-pound lab bolted from nowhere out of the black of night to attack my dog! Jhana turned towards the dog to be friendly, but in a second, he threw my dog to the ground and put his teeth into his shoulder. My dog screamed, as the dog continued to lock his teeth into Jhana’s flesh.

The owner of the dog ran out and yelled at his dog to no avail. Finally, he pulled on his dog and took him to the ground. He laid spread-eagle on him to stop his ferociousness. During this time, I was doing my best to not get between the two dogs. Everything happened so quickly, I could not get close to do anything.

The Amazing Benefits of Pine Needles

Immune System Strengthening & Much More

Maria Low
July – August 2021 • Vol 3, No 116

Recently, people have been asking me about the virtues of pine needles, as articles have been placed on the Internet stating that these needles could be helpful for the immune system during these times.

Pine needles come from the Conifer tree. The indigenous peoples of North America have always revered the Conifer tree for use in health maintenance and for helping the body to recover from several maladies. Both the bark and needles are used.

Once the branches or the bark have been harvested, the trick is to figure out how to secure the essential, active components. If the needles are placed in water and brought to a boil, is there anything beneficial left?

Certainly, the water would have a pine flavor, but high temperatures will remove the health benefits, as the essential oils are destroyed. At the Young Living Farms, the temperature of distillers rarely goes over 160ºF. Most Conifers are distilled at around 140ºF.

The Powerful Influence of Essential Oils

No Longer the Missing Link in Internal Medicine

Maria Low
May – June 2021 • Vol 3, No 115

Essential oils are no longer the missing link in modern medicine. More and more health practitioners, doctors, scientists, veterinarians, dentists, massage therapists, spas and health-conscious consumers of all ages understand the ancient science of aromatherapy for both people and animals. Now millions of people are applauding the power of essential oils. Millions more are being introduced to essential oils every year.

Therapeutic essential oils have powerful influences. The fragrance of an unadulterated essential oil can directly affect everything from your emotional state to your lifespan. An oil molecule functions like a lock and key, similar to an odor molecule fitting a specific receptor site. In 1996, an Italian scientist named Luca Turin theorized that the vibrational properties of molecules enable humans to distinguish smells. He suggests that the olfactory receptors sense the quantum vibration of each odorant’s atoms. Each olfactory receptor is tuned to different frequencies. This allows humans to perceive an almost limitless number of odors.

Seed to Seal:

Setting Standards for Essential Oils

Maria Low
March – April 2021 • Vol 3, No 114

The Young Living Mission: We enhance and empower lives around the world by having the unique benefits of nature’s living energy—essential oils!

Over the last twenty years or so, a significant improvement has taken place in the health product industry that supplies natural supplements, nutrition, and cosmetics. The industry offers the consumer refined and effective products to supplement children and adults, so they can enhance their health.

Many years ago, Gary Young, founder of Young Living Essential Oils, invited people in the health product industry to attend a meeting to discuss setting standards in the natural health field. When he presented his expectations to uplift the industry as a whole, he received a surprising response. The owners and representatives of companies did not understand why anyone would go beyond the FDA requirements. He was trying to set an American standard that would bring pride and respect to the alternative product industry. No companies accepted his offer. Instead, Gary set the standard on his own, and that standard has become the world-renowned “Seed to Seal” standard.
