The human face is very special. There are several facial expressions that correspond to our emotional states, such as joy, peace, fear, anger, and sadness. No doubt, many of us hold tension in our faces. It is noteworthy that the famous Mona Lisa painting has a relaxed face and shows Inner Peace.
Facial expressions are formed by specialized muscles that differ from our skeletal muscles. The skeletal muscles that include the jaw (chewing muscles), are powerful, and have straight, parallel bunches of fibers. When they contract, they move bones to accomplish all of our familiar physical activities. The facial muscles are much more delicate, maybe curved in shape, and move skin and fascia, instead of bone.
